Trust 30 – Ralph Waldo Emerson – Day 1

Today is the first day of the Domino Project’s Trust30 Challenge. Each day, a prompt will be posted that encourages you to look within and trust yourself.

Today’s prompt is from author Gwen Bell, and below is my response. I hope you enjoy.

“You just discovered you have fifteen minutes to live.
1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes.
2. Write the story that has to be written.”

To all of you. You, who feel afraid. You, who feel less than. You, who hold it all in. You, who think you have no voice.

It is to you I write. You who will read my last words.

Find yourself. Your Authentic Self. It may not be easy. But you know that voice. You know it. You’ve heard it in the quiet moments of the dark night, from the voice of the trees as you’ve stood in the woods, in your body’s first, gut response to something. She’s quiet, silent as a whisper sometimes. But she is always there, guiding you, showing you—if you will listen.

You’ve often chosen a way your Authentic Self would not choose. And that is part of the path. From those choices, you have learned something. There is information there critical to you becoming even more of the beautiful You you are meant to be. That information is a gift. And we must be still to open it.

Listen to the voices. You know which are not your Authentic Self. Love them all. Yes, ALL of them. They are all there for a reason. They all protect you, love you. And yes, sometimes they don’t get along with each other. But they are a part of you. Listen to their needs and the role they play in your life. Above all, be compassionate. You must be compassionate to all parts of you. And curious. Oh yes, be curious.

You see, once you can do this for yourself – be compassionate, be curious, and find the voice of your Authentic Self – only then can you truly do it for others.

Because all other people, ALL of them, have a story. They all need love. Love stems from compassion, which stems from curiosity. And there is no greater power, no greater need, no greater gift, than love.

Discover who you are created to be. Not a big, famous, showy person. Or maybe a big, famous, showy person. But be YOU. Who were YOU created to be?

Spend your life discovering that. With compassion. With curiosity. And with love.

Until next time, may you love your life today.

Ahhh, sweet Dani words. Your words encourage, inspire, and offer love. I am listening to the voices, and it was you, lovely lady, who taught me how to distinguish them and have compassion on all. I like the words you leave in the last fifteen minutes of your life; I like them because they are from your authentic self, and she is wise and beautiful!
